Stockroom, Stockport has been shortlisted for Best Repurposing and Placemaking Project at The Revo’s 2025 – an award celebrating the transformation of retail and leisure spaces into vibrant, community-focused environments.
For nearly 40 years, Revo has recognised excellence across the retail, leisure and placemaking property sector, with its Gold, ACE and Purple Apple Awards regarded as leading industry benchmarks. The Revo’s bring these strands together, celebrating standout achievements in development, investment, asset management, operations, customer experience and destination marketing.
Stockroom is an innovative cultural and creative hub at the heart of Stockport town centre. Set within repurposed retail units in Merseyway Shopping Centre, it brings together a library, children’s learning space, café bar, Stockport’s historic archives and a flexible events venue – Stockroom Studios – to create a welcoming civic destination. We led on the architectural design and delivery of the space for client, Stockport Council.
Project Director Phil Hepworth said: “Stockroom has redefined the civic offer within Stockport town centre. The once-vacant retail units have been transformed into a vibrant, multi-use community hub that places creativity, culture and learning at its heart. It’s incredibly exciting to see the project recognised at this year’s Revo’s – especially as it’s the only northern scheme to reach the final amidst strong competition.”
The nomination reflects AEW’s commitment to meaningful placemaking and the creative reuse of existing assets, showcasing how thoughtful design can reshape town centres and strengthen local identity.
