AEW Returns to the AJ100

Another year, another place in the AJ100. It’s an honour we don’t take lightly and is recognition that grows naturally out of the approach we take to our work with clients up and down the country.

Marking the fourth time we’ve featured in the list, the AJ100 remains a key barometer for the industry, recognising expertise, scale and consistency.

Growth and investment in people

Part of the recognition comes from our continued growth born out of an expanding portfolio of work. It also links in with our long-term commitment to developing talent from within.

Andy Rainford, AEW Managing Director said: “Being recognised in the AJ100 again is a great reflection of the consistency and quality of the work we’re delivering. All of that is made possible by our culture, the way we work and the people that make up our team.”

Shortlisted for community impact of the year

Alongside this, we’ve also been shortlisted for the AJ100 Community Impact of the Year award. This category celebrates projects that demonstrate meaningful engagement with local communities and deliver lasting value for the people who use them.

Our submission focused on Stockroom in Stockport, a community-led transformation of underused retail units within the Merseyway Shopping Centre into a new civic and cultural hub. A great example of adaptive reuse rather than demolition, the project brings together a modern public library, children’s creative spaces, a heritage archive, flexible studios, exhibition areas and a café designed to encourage social interaction.

Stockroom, the regeneration of vacant retail space into community space including a library, event space and places for children to learn. It is part of the wider merseyway regeneration in the heart of Stockport. Designed by AEW Architects.

Earlier this month, we were delighted to welcome the AJ Awards judges to the space, giving them the opportunity to see first-hand the transformational role Stockroom is already playing within Stockport town centre.

Looking ahead

Being recognised in the AJ100 once again, alongside our Community Impact of the Year shortlisting, is a proud moment for the practice and an important acknowledgement of the work our team continues to deliver across the UK.

For us, these achievements are about more than industry recognition alone. They reflect the strength of our collaborative approach, our commitment to placemaking and the positive impact our projects can have on people, communities and the environment.

As we continue to grow, we remain focused on delivering thoughtful, sustainable and socially valuable architecture – and we’re excited to see where that approach takes us next.
